Grocery Shopping and Cooking!

12th June 2008

Unlike the previous time I was here on exchange, I don't have the luxury of having dinner simply and easily at a cafeteria or Seasons (the dining hall back at Bentley). haha I gotta cook this time round! Well, it's something good I guess. It's either I learn cooking now or probably... never? hahaha. too lazy to do that back at home since I have my mummy who can whip up wonderful meals.

Grocery shopping at Commissary

It's something new to us, to think and discuss about what to eat for lunch/dinner, go for grocery shopping so regularly and cook together! Quite fun! well, the washing part after that is not definitely! hehe.

What an achievement!

10th June 2008

Decided to post some pics I took during my transits in Tokyo and Detroit. haha. thought it may be a significant entry for me. haha

For this trip, I did all the check-in myself and went through the gates alone, for the first time and most importantly without anyone seeing me off! thought that's better since I can't bear to see people close to me cry. I'll join them too. haha my family wanted to go to the airport with me but all of them knocked out by 2am after playing cards for 4 whole hours. Didn't managed to stay up and send me to the airport as planned but the thought of it was good enough for me. I didn't wake all of them up, only woke my mummy up to let her know that I was leaving.

was surely amused by the toilets in Tokyo!

Well, maybe it doesn't sound like something fantastic but it's a total achievement for me! haha flying across the pacific ocean alone to the states for yet again another 26 hours! this time round, without Adam to help me of course. hee. yeah a whole day of flying indeed sounds like a torture but it turned out pretty fine. Met nice people along the way, had a full conversation in pure Chinese for as long as 11 hours on my flight from Tokyo to Detroit. Trust me, it wasn't easy! I didn't even know how to address the couple from Beijing initially, auntie uncle? hahaha. had a part time 11 hours translation job on the plane too. This couple was gonna visit their daugher in Ohio, who's gonna go into labour in probably 2-3 weeks time. Both of them were brimming with excitement and couldn't stop looking at the time whenever they were awake on the plane! haha felt happy for them since I've got a baby nephew at home as well and I guess we do have something in common: I couldn't wait to see ron at the airport too!!! hee.

Pretty huh?

At Detroit, memories of getting detained (not nice but still an experience!) and going around the airport with Adam flooded my head. It was a nice feeling, to see this place again. Fortunately, this time round, I managed to clear the US customs smoothly. hee hee. Really learnt my lesson: Forget something and get into deep shit. haha. As I've some time to spare, I waited for the couple and helped them with the collection of their luggage. I walked them to the gate leading to the arrival hall and we parted from there. Feels pretty happy with myself, like I've done something small but good.

After another 2 hours of domestic flight, I finally got to Atlanta!!! yayyyyy!! haha was simply over the moon when I saw ron! haha well, it wasn't as drama mama as I expected it to be.. was a lil lost when I got out of the airport, stared at the luggage collection screen for as long as I was out (haha by then I had totally switched off), gave up looking for the belt to collect my luggage, turned around and saw these two Chinese guys (so distinct! hee) walking towards the arrival gates. hahaha

I slept well almost the entire way back to Alabama, feeling completely safe and at ease.

Thanks for coming to fetch me with Ron Marc!

Life in the states again!

10th June 2008

It has almost been a week since I got to Fort Rucker, Alabama, to visit Ronald Loh.

haha yeah some people may think that I'm silly enough to travel half the globe, alone, and suffer jet lag the past almost-one-week since I've got here, just to spend time with him, which in the eyes of some of my friends, it's total "rotting".

Well, it may not be as exciting as my previous trip here when I was on exchange in Boston and may not be the smartest thing to do. It also may not be one of those decisions that my mum will unquestioninly go ok and smile instantly to express her support for it.

BUT when will I ever have the time to do such crazy things again?

"I'm going to the states next week! wooHoo!"

(Ya probably doesn't sound like something huiyi will do.. this is so irrational. haha oh well, can't be so rational and practical all the time.)

Maybe...when I'm off from work? probably on a 3 weeks block leave after the "peak" period? ya probably, hopefully too. Even so, it wouldn't be as carefree. No deadlines? No calls from work? No reminders on my calendar? No something nagging at the back of your head? Like what my jie mei said, when are you gonna be so damn free again in your life? like really nothing to worry about!

No matter what, I'm really glad that I came to the states. Gotta know so much more. Him, his work, friends, myself and most importantly us. Was really thankful that my family became supportive of it, some of the other friends who understood me and of course loh ming yao who was really more than concerned throughout the whole time before I came here!

You better treasure it well Tan Hui Yi! haha

Family Outings!

It's really exciting to have a baby in the family! Feels really different, a joy that everyone in the family shares. Everyone in the family dotes on lil botak! we all get excited about bringing him everywhere to see everything haha and thanks to the lil baby, we definitely have more family outings as my mummy (his grandmother) is more willing to step out of the house, bring him around for sightseeing! Maybe he doesn't know much for now and probably not gonna remember anything, but no matter what, it's always good to bring him around than stay at home huh! Maybe.. he may rem sth! We never know! hee.

Visit to farms, 20th May 2008
We had a family outing today, impromptu outing! it just so happened that my sis-in-law was on leave and everybody else had nothing on. haha visited two places- Qian Hu and the goat farm. It was weird visiting Qian Hu itself cos i know it as a listed company, sth we'll talk about in tutorial class..never occurred to me that it's gonna be a place where i'll actually visit. hahah. well, it turned out fun!

Guess whose feet are these? :)

we went on to the goat farm.

hahaha was really excited about drinking the goat milk!

the baby goats were really cute!

Vivocity Marche, 16th May 08
We brought our lil hamburger, also known as "Botak" in the family, to Vivo today for a swim. haha. ya he doesn't respond to Kendrick, he only responds to "botak" or "Ah B" (baBy)! Don't know if that's good or not. oh well, I grew up as "Ah mei" in the family, definitely not Hui Yi :) And I grew up normal. erm right? hahaha

Happy botak in the water

Happy grandma!

"I want moreeee!" -Doremon

In Marche..

Doremon papa and mama?

Milk for you? haha

Sentosa, 30th May 08
It's my sis-in-law's birthday today. haha! "We bring botak to go and see Merlion!" wahahhaa. Yet another excuse to get the grandmother out of the house, to go Sentosa together! hahaha. and since it was the June holidays, we also got Edness and Edgar to come along. We had lotsa fun at underwater world, Siloso beach and not to forget the luge!

haha that's what you do when you see a shark!

How's my smile?

Haha acting "dao"..

I lovvvve this pic!

And I thought i was the only one who'll do such a thing!

Like mother like daughter!

Luge!

At the snaky fountain leading to the merlion...

oops.

Even Botak was amused!
Whoooh!
